Driftless Art Collective is nonprofit.
Our mission is to empower our community and ourselves to network and foster partnerships, so together we can create stronger art-related events, cultural activities and educational opportunities, in the Northeast Iowa Driftless Region.
What does that mean for us?
As a 501(c)(3)* charitable organization, often simply called a “non-profit”, we have a mission to serve events, activities and opportunities which are for educational, scientific, literary, or charitable purposes.
It also means we are eligible to accept donations which may be tax deductible for the donor, or seek funding via grants to support our efforts. These grants must not conflict with the mission of the organization or mission of non-profits to avoid a particularly political or religious
Non profit organizations like Dartco do not have at their heart the purpose to make money so that our Board, members, employees make money off profits, but that doesn’t mean they cannot make money, pay staff, directors, organizers, even accountants, to ensure their records are up to date and your donations are put to good use, and to make events and activities happen!
It does mean that the profit created by events, activities, and opportunities is funneled back into the organization: it is not paid out as dividends, paid out to members or staff simply because it is over and above the balance of income and expenses. As a recognized charitable organization, we make our records available on request (and those of our Fiscal Projects). Please contact us if you have further questions.
Do we pay taxes? If we make income that qualifies as taxable (sometimes ticket sales, advertising, merchandise sales can count as taxable) we may pay taxes on some of this income.
*It’s gets kind of complicated, but we’ve included a link to Wikipedia here, in case you’re curious!
What does that mean for you?
You can be assured that your donation is heading towards our mission! We endeavor “keep it local” whenever possible, so it’s also working to support the community we serve.
It also means that your donation may be tax deductible in the United States. We will ensure you have a receipt for your donation so come tax time, you may enjoy the break for giving generously. Why do we say may? We don’t know the particulars of your taxes, so we have to leave it up to the individual or organization to report donations as donations. If you don’t receive a receipt, please ask, we should have it on file if you gave your name with a donation.
